Villa Trapp: A Hotel with History

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, but that didn’t stop me from feeling like I lived in the Swiss Alps with the Von Trapps when I was young. My mother would constantly fill the house with singing, playing the soundtrack, or the Sound of Music DVD playing in the background of our lives. So when my family decided to take a trip to Austria it seemed natural to stay and the original Von Trapp House.

In a neighborhood of Salzburg Austria, you can stay at the actual Von Trapp house! Where the real Von Trapps lived before the war forced them to leave. A Missionary Order owned the property until 1992. The home sold soon after and was turned into a lovely hotel.  More than 20 rooms, all beautifully decorated and all with a different flair. This makes for a fun experience when you book multiple rooms for a big group! They also have a fantastic buffet breakfast for an extra fee that is extremely worth the price. The owners of the house are very warm hearted and can talk to you all day about the history of the house and the family. They are also a wealth of knowledge about Salzburg as well if you need any recommendations.

The house and grounds are immaculate and the backyard has a lovely view of the mountains. However, it is private property, so without being a guest you won’t have the ability to see this beautiful place. While it was little away from center it is close to a bus station. The house allows you to slip back through time to experience the beauty in which the real Von Trapp’s lived. If you are a sound of music fan it is definitely a unique place to check out.  We definitely recommend this quaint hotel to get the real Sound of Music experience!
