Get Your Nom Nom on in Oahu

Get Your Nom Nom on in Oahu

When you are traveling to Oahu it is very easy to get swept up in the awesomeness that is the Honolulu, but there is so much more to see and more importantly taste on the other parts of the island. We spent three months living in Hawaii working on a farm so we found some delicious places. (Check out our other blog post to find out how we did it almost for FREE) Today we are going to look at some of the best food in Oahu outside of the capital.

Elephant Shack/Truck

  • They used to be by Shark’s Cove which is amazing place for cliff jumping and swimming. Now they have moved locations and opened up a restaurant in Halewia, which is another incredible place to visit. They have amazing Thai food that is fresh and delicious. We highly recommend their green or yellow curry.

Opal Thai

  • This place is a must try! It was one of our favorite places in Hawaii. If you are an adventurous and quirky eater, this place is the one to try! It’s a BYOB, place with a small amount of tables so definitely make a reservation. You walk in and once seated the head chef comes and sits at your table. He asks for your name and some information about you. Then he discussed what types of Thai food you like and your preferences. Then goes back and makes you delicious food, no ordering required! It is amazing food, their chicken wings are to die for and on one trip there we were even served stingray. Honestly, this place still remains as one of my most talked about experiences.

Poi Factory

  • Do you want a traditional Hawaiian food but for not Honolulu prices? Then GO TO THE POI FACTORY. Some of the most delicious Hawaiian food, kalua pork, laulau, and of course, poi. Sometimes if you are lucky you can see then actually making the poi. This is located in Kaneohe, en route to the north shore and about 3 miles away from Kualoa Ranch.

Waiahole Garden Bistro

  • This charming little bistro lets you picnic right next to Chinaman’s Hat. They also have a nice little patio with everything from fish tacos to shave ice. It is also a nursery so take some time and walk around and look at the charming shop and beautiful flowers.

Last and Certainly Not Least …7/11

  • I know, if you are not from Hawaii your response would be like mine, “7/11 that sounds terrible” NO, Hawaiian 7/11’s have pork buns and sushi wrapped by the old grandma’s in the back. Please do not waste your opportunity to get some delicious and cheap food.
