Whiskey, Gin, and Thieves…. Just kidding about the last part. As most of our faithful readers will know, we were recently in Austria, both in Salzburg and in Vienna. While there we went to one of the most unique bars I have been to in a very long time. If you are looking for an atmosphere very reminiscent of Frank Sinatra and the rat pack, with good spirits, whiskeys and amazing bartenders in Vienna then go to Barfly’s.
Located beneath a 100 plus year of hotel, the bar contains over 1,000 different whiskeys, one of the biggest collection in Europe. Also not only is this bar fully stocked but they have expert bartenders that can recommend a whiskey to fit your taste. One of my brothers loves whiskey and the bartender was able to recommend different whiskey options to fit his taste and preference. Also you can do different flights of whiskey. Or you can just search through their giant book dedicated to their whiskey collection.
If however, you are not a whiskey person, like myself, you can get a cocktail with any type of spirits you want. These cocktails were some of the best cocktails I have ever had. My personal favorite was the Guava Collins. This was a take on the original Tom Collins but with the addition of Guava. Aaron, who also does not like whiskey or gin, got a Bohemian Ice Tea. It was definitely light and refreshing. With over 500 unique cocktails there was definitely something for everyone there.
If you are looking for a unique place with cool ambiance, and delicious cocktails this is your place. Definitely be prepared to spend some time, scoping out the menu, and enjoying the throwback music. A great way to relax after spending all day exploring the historic city of Vienna.
