Having a Thanksgiving holiday doesn’t have to stop the workout. We understand and also celebrate cheat meals every now and again but this fun turkey inspired Thanksgiving workout will hopefully have you right back on track! Maybe after a nap…and some more pie…. You can do all of theses exercises in one workout or pick and choose which pieces you like. (If any of these exercises are unknown to you, check here for good explanations!)
So, I am a fairly new runner, I started running about 2 years ago when I decided I was going to make a new lifestyle change and I thought running was a good step. I have definitely had my fair share of challenges but we actually just completed a 8Km race to the top of the tallest mountain in Ukraine! But as someone who calls herself a “wannabe runner” who has a love/hate relationship with running, I have realized that I go through several stages every time I run. (If you have a love/hate relationship with running too, add these to your collection!) Whether you are an experienced runner or just beginning, these stages are the rollercoaster we have all experience while running.
Goverla (or Hoverla) is the tallest mountain in Ukraine at 6,762 feet. The name is from old Hungarian meaning “Snow Mountain” and for about 6 months out of the year, it lives up to that name. Luckily for us, early October is not part of the snow season. We recently raced in the Lifeventure Goverla Race in the Carpathian Mountains; it is an 8 or 16 Km race to the top of Goverla. Being the adventurous spirits we are who are always looking for fun ways to stay in shape, we said “why not?” If you have read our article “How We Lost 100lbs While Traveling” you know that we love to run. Even though we love to run, our muscles are still crying from this one. Nevertheless, we had such a great time that we could not wait to get home to write this blog post!
As our loyal readers know, we enjoy working out on the go. And if you are new to our site, make sure to check out our best tips for staying fit while traveling! We recently went on a day trip to the beautiful city of Lviv. Lviv is located in western Ukraine and is known for its historical structures combined with its modern urbanism. Luckily for us, Lviv has some beautiful views (if you are willing to work for them). Here we have created a list of the top three spots for stair workouts with some of the best views in Lviv.
Emotional wellness is making sure your mind and heart are being taken care of as much as you are taking care of your physical body. This, more than any other wellness can lead to very unhealthy lifestyle choices, i.e. weight gain, depression, and loss of enthusiasm for life. Emotional wellness includes increased awareness, expression and acceptance of a wide range of thoughts and feelings in yourself and in others. Emotional wellness also helps you to obtain positive self-esteem, healthy relationships, and mental and emotional resistance to challenges you might face in life.
“Wait I don’t understand. What does spiritual health have to do with you two losing 100 pounds?” I’m glad you asked mysterious creature from the internet void the honest answer is everything. So often we as a society focus on only the physical aspect of getting healthy, workout and eating right. But if you don’t have an overall wellness change then those physical changes are not sustainable. Gaining weight is so much more than just a physical experience, we eat when we are emotional, bored, or in social situations. The more bogged down our soul becomes, the more we consume, and the easier it becomes to find excuses to not workout. This then becomes a cycle that spirals out of control.
In following our travel weight loss series the next step in developing a sustainable weight loss is spiritual wellness. If you haven’t read part one, check it out here.Sometimes your soul is just in a funk. I get it, we start experiencing the existing phenomenon. Where you just got through the motions of life, just existing not really living. This can be a dangerous spiral, the lack of being truly present in one’s life can lead to issues with not only physical wellness but emotional and spiritual. It is easy to become fixated on the negative and on the future instead of working on yourself, in the here and now.

If you don’t read anything else in our blog I hope you at least read this post. This is the single largest piece of advice I can give on how to live an adventurous fulfilling life. And it will blow your mind. The secret? Say “=&0=&.” To anything and everything….well within your own limits obviously. You will be surprised how much the world opens up to you if you just accept it. Emily and I spent three months working on a farm in Hawaii (which will be covered in a later post) and I originally told Emily, “No, there is no way we can do that, yet alone afford it. But, as she always does, she changed my mind and I said “Yes”. If you go to a new place, or meet new people and someone asks you if you want to see something in the town or if you want to go to a bar, (if you are comfortable and they aren’t creepy) GO. I have eaten some of the best, cheapest, and most interesting food in my life by trusting the people that live in the area. Granted, not every time is a success. Somethings are just terrible, boring, or not something you find interesting. But in my experience even those make for a hell of a story. And yes, this blog is about how to do amazing things, be spontaneous, and cross things off your bucket list while still staying on a budget and planning. Throughout this blog you will see why these things are not contradictions. Plan, but be ready to completely scrap the plan if an opportunity arises. The bottom line is that MOST people are not trying to ruin your day. Most people want to help. LET THEM. Be bold, be brave be adventurous.
