A One in a Million Experience in Prague

In our opinion, part of spiritual health is listening to the universe and paying attention to your place in it. Realizing the universe is conspiring to help you succeed and reminding you how connected we all are.

When we were exploring Prague, we found this fantastic swing near the Christmas market. We knew we needed to get a photo taken together on it. As we sat there, trying to figure out the best angle to take of us, two women walked by. They noticed our little struggle and stopped to ask if they could take the photo for us. Thankfully, they happily agreed. And after recognizing each other’s accents as being from the United States we struck up a conversation. We found out they were there visiting one of their daughters who lives in Budapest and came for a trip to Prague. They had also heard about the amazing Christmas market.  They asked where we were from and we explained that we currently live in Ukraine as volunteers but are originally from Illinois.

One of the woman perked up at this mention and quickly told us that she is originally from Illinois too, even though now they both live in Florida. We asked where, even though we knew it was going to be some suburb of Chicago (it always is). To our surprise, she said she is from a small town near Springfield, the state capital. Now, to you, the reader, that seems pretty “meh”, but I am from small town near Springfield! We quickly got into a conversation about high schools and cities. As it turns out her family is from the city I went to school in! My aunt even teaches at her old school, and (of course) we both love Abe Lincoln!

She found me on Facebook a month after meeting in Prague and sent me this photo…the day before posting this article

Why are we telling you this story? Great question. Why, out of everyone in Prague that day, did a woman who was from my exact town ask if we needed help? To show that you need to appreciate those small serendipitous moments that happen in your life. It is so easy to focus on the negative, the bad moments and then we fall into this dark circle. But if you can try to focus on the small beautiful moments that life gives you, we find that it can improve your spiritual health.
